But before we get into the work of the day I wanted to share how our mornings start. We are literally living with the missionary family, Donn, Cyndie and family.
We start our days with a team member lead devotion, we share their space, fend for ourselves for breakfast, enjoy the interaction with their kids, even their dogs.
This includes a very protective "Cooper" who stands in any windowsill he can find to look down on his City.
Cooper gets rewarded with some affection from Elle.
After we finished our devotion, it was time to circle our wagons and prepare this place for the VBS kids. First in that process was dividing and conquering our duties, some of the team went out to borrow some chairs & tables, then by C1 to get some games to play, some decorations, sound equipment and food for the VBS lunches.
Brenda behind part of her Mountain going through the last details of the story time rotation, Kaylyn is going to be her assistant and is full of passion for these kids!
Walmart loves our mission team, this is one of 5 grocery carts we left with today. Between supplies for VBS, food for our team and some planned upgrades with the "C1 room" at the Center for Hope made for an active shopping day.
After we finished with the set and making over 100 bubble making machines, most of your youth team members congregated in the gym to go over the songs for tomorrow. This included the lyrics, motions and interaction with the VBS kids. Just before the dinner (cooked by Hannah and Linda two of C1's awesome Board members-spaghetti bake with salad & bread) we had an incredible announcement from Caitlin (one of the 1Gen youth group melmbers), at 2:16 p.m. today she decided to give her life to Christ. This is always fantastic news, it's especially great because of all that Caitlin and her family has gone through over the last few months. Even better, we are GETTING to spend more time with her over the next 3 days as she one of over 7 1Gen or 2ndGeneration members who are taking time out of their schedule to help be a part of our VBS team.
A trip to Gloversville is not complete until we've taken our team picture in front of C1 with our mission shirts on, tonight we accomplished that just before our Annual Prayer walk.
I jumped out of this "crazy" picture so Caitlin (mentioned above related to 2:16 p.m.) could join in the fun. Caitlin is shown on the far right.
Now for the prayer walk! Learning about Gloversville from it's residents is so powerful. They love this place, and as you know, you can't spell gLOVErsville without Love.
Painting the town PINK in our team shirts
Going to God and asking for His help as we lifted up various prayer concerns in 4 different teams around town.
After finishing the prayer walk, we met back at C1 for some worship songs and sharing about the things we experienced. Pastor Wil and Deb arrived straight from the airport after a week long conference in Florida. He shared one of the things that he had learned this past week is "in ministry and spreading the word of Christ, you have to do it the same way Jesus did, at 3 mph" That was the perfect insight we needed to close out our day as we prepare to share the light of Christ tomorrow through our presence with the kids of Gloversville.
